Provisioning your yacht for a sailing vacation is an important part of the planning process and can be time consuming. For this reason, it is essential to make sure you have all the items you will need for your yacht. When determining quantities for each item, consider both the number of people on board and the length of your trip.
It is best to start by making a list of items that should be included in yacht provisioning. Common items include food, beverages, cooking supplies, cleaning products, and personal items such as toiletries and sunscreen and bug repellent. Once you have made a list, determine how many days you’ll be at sea and calculate how much of each item you will need.
Perishable items like dairy or meat should be eaten first to prevent spoilage.
For items with a longer shelf-life, such as canned goods and dry pasta, you can purchase larger quantities that will last throughout the trip. Keep in mind that space on board is limited, so plan accordingly and only bring what you need.
Make sure to factor in extra supplies in case of unexpected events or emergencies while out on the water. Lastly, take into account all necessary items such as medications and emergency kits before setting sail.
After purchasing all of your items, it’s important to store them properly. Invest in storage containers such as bins or totes to organize items and keep them out of the way when not in use. Perishable items should be stored in an insulated cooler and secured below deck or in a locker if possible to keep them from shifting during rough seas. With yacht provisioning, thorough planning and organization are key for a successful sailing vacation.
It’s also helpful to support the local grocers, wine shops, butchers and deli shops. Many of them also specialize in provisioning and offer online pre-orders and delivery straight to your boat.
Once you have everything in place, all that's left to do is set sail and enjoy!
